For every electric car and van business drivers, speed is very important. Not how fast the vehicles go, but how long it takes to charge while they’re on the road. That’s because, when you’re working, time is money.
Drivers want to add enough range to get to their destination, rather than fully charge each time they stop making the ability to rapid charge, and get moving again quickly, more important than ever.
At Allstar, we’ve concentrated on developing our rapid charge network to meet this need, and now have one of the UK’s widest offerings. As a result, business drivers can plug in, pay, and then get on with their day.
Most recently, we’ve partnered with MFG to offer increased rapid and ultra-rapid charging for fleets, expanding our Allstar electric charging network by an additional 212 charging points. Drivers using the Allstar One Electric card are now able to access more than 2,700 rapid and ultra rapid chargers throughout the UK.
Our partnership with Zap Map means cardholders can simply lodge their card into the app, search for charge points and get a full overview of available charge points and their proximity, as well as planning, editing, and saving routes to locations, while adding in charge points on the way.
This means using the Allstar electric charging network, drivers don’t waste time searching and then charging. Plugging in shouldn’t hit productivity.
A rapid charger is usually one that can charge at 50kW or above. To give an idea of just how quickly it can recharge a battery, the public charging target of adding 100 miles in range would take only half an hour. That means hardly any time is taken out of the working day while plugged in.
That said, they’re equally useful if you want to put in a complete charge. Even a 50kW charger could get an average-sized EV from 0-80% (the recommended level) in between an hour and 90 minutes.
However, rapid chargers can be faster still than 50kW and reach speeds of up to 350kW, although not all vehicles are able to access these rates.
Below is a table that shows the charge point operators that include rapid and ultra rapid charge types on their networks. From this point on, we’re now able to offer customers one of the fastest charging networks for fleets in the UK.
