Driven by its strong commitment to caring for the planet and achieving ambitious ESG targets, the company integrates these principles into every aspect of its operations, including the management of its fleet and decarbonisation initiatives. By aligning their sustainability goals with opportunities to drive efficiencies, Yunex Traffic continues to enhance convenience, reduce costs, and minimise its environmental footprint. Installing and maintaining next-generation infrastructure like traffic lights, enforcement cameras and intelligent road monitoring requires a fleet of more than 560 vehicles, which includes cherry-pickers and other special-purpose vehicles.
As Yunex Traffic works towards its goal of keeping fleets moving and carbon down, it has already migrated 40% of its fleet to electric vehicles (EVs) taking the number from 0 to 223 in just 24 months and that number is set to grow rapidly. This is no small feat, but an important step taken in order to have a fleet that is as progressive as their technology. Not afraid to walk on the cutting edge of sustainable technology, it even operates a hydrogen powered vehicle too.
When Yunex Traffic embarked on its mission to decarbonise their business and transition its fleet to electric vehicles, the company navigated the complexities that come with adopting new technologies. Initially, drivers relied on public charging points, which occasionally presented logistical challenges such as locating available chargers during busy periods. This highlighted opportunities to further optimise fleet operations and charging strategies.
Yunex Traffic needed a full solution that would mean their traditionally-fuelled vehicles would be taken care of as usual while being able to provide for the rapidly increasing proportion of EVs that the company was welcoming to its fleet. It would need to be flexible enough to serve all those behind the wheel and the unique needs they have, while being thorough, compliant, and convenient when it came to reconciliation.
This was where Allstar and its at-home and public charging all-in-one solution, Allstar Chargepass, came into its own. Yunex Traffic had worked successfully with Allstar for many years to serve its fuel needs, but now was the prime opportunity for the relationship to evolve.
Public charging: access to the UK’s largest and fastest electric charging payment network, including over 1,700 Tesla Supercharger charge points
Charging at home: Allstar Homecharge automatically and accurately pays a driver’s home charging costs* directly to their energy supplier
Fuel: Allstar Chargepass also provides access to over 90% of the UK’s fuel network
Allstar Online: Easy-to-use dashboard hosts reports on all fuel and charging spend as well as one HMRC-compliant invoice
The remaining 60% of Yunex Traffic’s fleet that still uses internal combustion engines (ICE) will continue to need reliable fuel cards. As the transition to EV expanded, it has adopted the Allstar Chargepass card, allowing vehicles to use public charge points where appropriate. This answers the need for a flexible solution that allows for vehicles to be refuelled or recharged on the road.
Allstar Homecharge helped simplify what could be an administrative nightmare by managing payments through one supplier with complete visibility of home charging and payments across Yunex Traffic’s fleet. Because it is hardware agnostic, its home charging can integrate with existing hardware and anything that may be installed in future.
Payments are made directly to the driver’s energy supplier, so there’s no need for a difficult and slow expense process, that could frustrate drivers. This is all part of a digital system that gives Yunex Traffic complete visibility over their fleet and their spend, helping to make admin headaches a thing of the past for fleet managers.
Yunex Traffic’s employees don’t have to worry about out-of-pocket expenses or sudden bills, because everything is handled for them. Admin is made simple through the Allstar Driver Homecharge portal which allows them to manage home energy tariff details and have visibility over home charging. They also use Allstar MileagePoint for 102 of their company car drivers to provide an accurate split of business and personal mileage, that satisfies HMRC audit requirements.
Patrick Nolan, Fleet Manager at Yunex Traffic, said: "Allstar has been with us from day one, and we couldn’t be happier with them as a partner. Being able to adopt a solution that enables drivers to charge from home was critical for us. It’s a new challenge for us as we collectively move towards EV adoption, but Allstar had a complete solution ready to go when we needed it. They’ve obviously put a lot of thought into what works in the real world and the needs of fleets in their transition. That has meant that it has been easier than expected for our drivers to get on board with their new electric vehicles.
We’re on the road to being a fully electric fleet, and that could be much harder if we didn’t have a partner who understood both the EV and ICE parts of fleet management, and much more. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Allstar for many years to come."
Together, Allstar has provided Yunex Traffic with a solution for every type of transport and ‘fuel’ type it utilises across its fleet. As Yunex Traffic ramps up its transition to a fully electrified fleet, Allstar has provided them with everything they need to evolve, an all encompassing solution that addresses their needs.
